Livestock Manager Job Description

The Livestock Manager is primarily responsible for managing and overseeing the livestock; Cattle & Pigs on the Farm. The Livestock Manager coordinates with and takes direction from the owner with regard to the care of the animals.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day management and care of all livestock, currently including 100 head of Cattle, 200 head of pigs from breeding through finish
  • Upkeep and management of grazing systems, pastures, barns, fences, livestock health, feed and feeding systems
  • Working with team, staff, and owners to develop, articulate, and implement appropriate livestock systems
  • Implementing Certified Organic & Certified Humane policies and keeping up of Certifications
  • Maintaining exemplary farm operations and facilities
  • Planning for management systems and livestock production to fulfill the needs of the Direct to Consumer products
  • Development of land management goals and farm vision planning
  • Low stress handling of large and small livestock
  • Intensive, regenerative grazing management
  • Fence building and maintenance
  • Basic farm carpentry
  • General equipment use (tractor, rototiller, chainsaw, mower)

 

Qualifications

  • Management experience on a diversified and integrated crop and livestock farm
  • Experience with livestock 
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively, both independently and as a part of a team

 

 

Farm Hand/Ranch Hand Job Description

Perform variety of duties related to operating a ranching/farming business including but not limited to caring for livestock, irrigation systems, operating farming machinery, planting & baling crops, maintenance and repair of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate, plant, weed, and harvest crops and fields
  • Cut, rake, bale crops
  • Build and repair fences
  • Drive or operate farm machinery
  • Assist with minor maintenance and repair of ranch/farm equipment 
  • Feed, gather and load livestock

Qualifications

  • Experience with irrigation
  • Experience with livestock 
  • Experience with equipment operations a plus
  • Basic mechanic abilities 
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and tasks at once in a fast-paced environment

You are comfortable being out on the farm, following & capturing the daily activity of ranch life, chores, animals, and equipment. You have a strong understanding of all social channels and are constantly educating yourself on new updates and trends in the social space. You know how to meet and beat deadlines, stay ahead of trends and always look for new ways to stay on top and ahead of content. You like to think big and execute grand ideas. You’re a problem solver and your writing is thought-provoking and creative. You value team collaboration and contribute to the company culture.   • Develop account strategy and content calendars with Marketing Team
  • Drive strategies that are proven by testing and monitored analytics
  • Responsible for monitoring and engaging in online conversations, including responding to questions and comments

Qualifications

  • Ability to be physically following Life on the Farm, out and about on the ranch
  • Enjoy being around animals and are curious about ranch life
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
  • Extensive knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, and other relevant social media networks
  • Passion for creative development & social media 
  • Excellent writing skills and experience
  • Available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
